Valerie Waters is a classically trained pianist who grew up with music in the family. She started picking out songs on the piano at age 3. That’s how it all started. Fast forward a few years, Valerie was accompanying the choirs in high school and started playing by ear. Now, Valerie is giving music a chance as a full time job and doing session work as well as booking weddings, parties, special events, brunches, dinners, etc.
In the past, Valerie has played in several bands and performed at Birmingham’s City Stages music festival with “Latin Sounds,” a 13-piece salsa and merengue group, and also with “Los Calientes,” a New Orleans-based salsa band, for the Birmingham Heritage Festival. She played with and recorded a CD “Perfect Monday Night” with RubberJean, an alternative honky-tonk band in Birmingham, and later moved from Birmingham to Atlanta in 2000. She recorded an EP with the Tone Mutts who landed in Guitar Center’s Battle of the Bands top 5 bands the year that Jennifer Nettles won, recorded with the Between 9&7 Band on their smooth jazz CD “It is What it Is.” Most recently, she recorded with the Colin Alvarez Band on their soon to be released blues/funk/rock CD. She plays with Cody Matlock on Thursday nights at Darwin’s. Sample of past gigs: Centennial Park Wednesday Wind Down, Founders Hall in Roswell, Fox Theater Egyptian Ballroom, Sheraton Midtown and Georgian Terrace Hotels, Atlanta Zoo fundraiser, The Strand’s “Brew with a View” on Marietta Square, Birmingham Country Club, and many other restaurants and establishments. Valerie is starting to be recognized in the Atlanta blues scene and is playing with multiple bands as well as taking solo gigs of her own.
As a solo artist, you can expect to hear Contemporary, Bossa Nova, Smooth Jazz selections with 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s mixed in. The songs will be the perfect accompaniment for tapas and drinks with your favorite people so don’t forget to bring your friends.
